Buhari reportedly rejects ministerial list from APC governors. Ha!

President-elect Buhari appeared to have dashed the hopes of the governors elected on the platform of the APC when he rejected their plans to submit a ministerial list to him.
The APC governors, led by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, had, last Tuesday, visited Buhari in Abuja to pledge loyalty and make some demands. At the meeting, some requests were placed on the table openly, while the request to drop the list of possible ministers came up for discussion behind the closed door.Sources close to the meeting between the governors and General Buhari indicated that the state chief executives came out of the visit with heavy minds.
Planning to maintain the tradition already instituted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where the state governors as party leaders in the states are requested to submit list of possible ministers and Ambassadorial appointees to the president, the governors threw the request at Buhari.
But it was learnt that the General rejected the proposal and declared that the Constitution does not mandate him to take a list of ministerial nominees from them.
The president-elect was also said to have rejected the call for a bailout for the states that have been unable to pay salaries, with a source informing Sunday Tribune that the General flatly rejected the proposal, saying the he was aware the Federal Government was not owing the states their allocations.
A source close to the discussion told the Sunday Tribune that General Buhari told the governors that those of them in their second terms could not complain about the state of government finances, as they have all been collecting allocations from the Federal Government all along.
The source quoted Buhari as saying that “I do not think we can discuss that issue of Ministerial list. The Constitution clearly does not mandate me to take a list from the governors. To me, the governors should concentrate on getting good hands to help them in discharging their duties in the states.”

Police officers were injured and vandals defaced a war memorial during violent protests in central London.
Dozens of protesters, many of them wearing masks or balaclavas tried to push their way through police lines. Some of the protesters brandished highly offensive banners as they marched towards Downing Street Protesters chanted 'Get the Tories Out' and 'Tory Scum' as they abused police officers trying to keep the peace Scotland Yard said two police officers needed hospital treatment and 17 people were arrested during the "unplanned anti-austerity protest" on Whitehall on Saturday afternoon as demonstrators reacted to the Conservatives' shock election victory.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are investigating the vandalism which formed part of the un-authorised protest which left two police officers requiring hospital treatment.
A Downing Street spokesman said: "Spraying graffiti on war memorials is a despicable display of disrespect for those who fought and died for their country, particularly at a time when the whole nation comes together to commemorate the 70th anniversary of VE Day."
In Cardiff, anti-Tory protesters took part in a rally at the Aneurin Bevan statue in Queen Street.
Singer Charlotte Church was among the estimated 200 people to take part.
She was pictured with a placard which read: "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more."
A group calling itself The People's Assembly Against Austerity claims it is organising another demonstration in the capital on 20 June.

28 Year Old Lagos Woman Arrested for Biting Co-tenant’s Privates
A 28-year-old woman, Mirian Ndubuisi, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for vicious assault on a co-tenant.
The
accused, a business woman who resides at 18, Odolowu St., Ijesha, Lagos
State, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and aggravated
assault.
She pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against her.
The prosecutor, Eranus Nnamonu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 12th at their residence.
Nnamonu said that a fight broke out between the two tenants who had previously been at loggerheads.
He
said the complainant had alleged that the defendant’s attempt to
eliminate him had resulted in the death of the defendant’s son.
“A scuffle ensued between Ndubusi and the complainant, one Phillip Eze,
over his declaration in church while giving a testimony that the
complainant’s son death was as a result of her intentions toward him.
“During the fight, Ndubusi bit one of Eze’s arms and his scrotum, leaving deep lacerations there ,” Nnamonu said.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 171 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 171 of the law
prescribes that any person who unlawfully assaults another and thereby
does him harm is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for
three years.
The Magistrate, A.R. Onilogbo,
admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties
in like sum and adjourned the matter to December 11th for mention.

China orders Muslim shopkeepers to sell alcohol, cigarettes, to ‘weaken’ Islam

Chinese authorities in Laskuy township issued a notice to residents in Aktash village last week saying in part, “all restaurants and supermarkets in our village should place five different brands of alcohol and cigarettes in their shops before (May 1, 2015).” Shopkeepers were also instructed to promote the products in “eye-catching displays.” Authorities warned that “anybody who neglects this notice and fails to act will see their shops sealed off, their business suspended, and legal action pursued against them.” The notice also said the order was handed down from the top ranks of China’s ruling Communist Party.
“We have a campaign to weaken religion here and this is part of that campaign,” Adil Sulayman, Aktash village party committee secretary. “Since 2012, people have stopped selling alcohol and cigarettes through their businesses. Even those who benefited financially from the practice have given it up because they fear public scorn. That is why (the order was issued).”
Many locals in Aktash and other parts of Laskuy who practice Islam have decided to abstain from drinking and smoking, and selling the products was considered taboo for religious reasons. Sulayman told RFA that authorities in Xinjian viewed nonsmoking Muslims as “a form of religious extremism.” The Quran refers to the use of alcohol and any intoxicants or self-destructive practices as a sin.
Government officials and children in the predominately Muslim Xinjiang province have been banned from attending mosques or observing the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which begins June 17.
The notice, obtained by RFA and posted on Twitter, ordered all restaurants and supermarkets in Aktash to sell five different brands of alcohol and cigarettes and display them prominently.
“Anybody who neglects this notice and fails to act will see their shops sealed off, their businesses suspended, and legal action pursued against them,” the notice said.
Radio Free Asia, which provides some of the only coverage of events in Xinjiang to escape strict Chinese government controls, said Hotan prefecture, where Aktash is located, had become “a hotbed of violent stabbing and shooting incidents between ethnic Uighurs and Chinese security forces.”
China says Uighur militant groups based abroad are using the Internet to inspire local Muslims to take up violent jihad against the state. Critics say China’s long repression of Uighur rights and nationalist sentiment has pushed people toward Islam as the only permitted assertion of their community’s identity, and pushed a minority toward a violent form of Islam. Clumsy attempts to promote alcohol or forbid beards and veils may prove counterproductive, they warn.
In January, Legislators in China's far-western Xinjiang province passed a law to prohibit residents from wearing burqas in public, in a continued campaign against what authorities view as religious extremism.
The Karamay city authorities targeted veils, large beards, as well as three types of Islamic dresses -- including those with the star and crescent symbol. Dozens of bus stations in the city were said to be manned by security personnel to conduct checks and report violators to the police.

According to the court order, which also includes a 125 million Egyptian pound ($16.3 million) fine, Mubarak's sons Gamal and Alaa were given 4 years of imprisonment each in the same case, which centers on the embezzlement of millions of dollars over the course of a decade. The court's decision can be appealed, a lawyer for Mubarak reportedly said.
The funds, which were meant to pay for renovation of presidential palaces, were allegedly spent by Mubarak and his sons on maintaining their private residences, AP reported, adding that several supporters of the 87-year-old autocrat shouted in anger as the judge announced his verdict.
In January, an Egyptian court had ordered a retrial in the $17 million embezzlement case dropping the only remaining charge against him. The court had also overturned the convictions of his two sons, reportedly noting that legal procedures had not been followed properly.

Arsenal won’t sell Walcott – Wenger

Wenger said he is confident Theo Walcott will sign a new contract at
Arsenal and ruled out a summer exit for the England international.
According to Soccernet,
Walcott’s current Arsenal contract is due to expire next year and,
although talks are now taking place over an extension, the forward’s
lack of first-team football since recovering from a long-term knee
injury has led to doubts over whether he will be willing to commit.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old, but Wenger said he is optimistic a new deal will be agreed.
“We are already talking to him,” Wenger
said. “Today, I am not in that mode of thinking because I want him to
stay. When you go into negotiations with a player, it is with a desire
for him to stay.
“He looks keen to do it. I’m keen to do it. Let’s see what comes out.
“The press always ask what we do in case
of failure. We want to be successful. In case of failure, that will
only be in December next year (season).”
Wenger also said he has no plans to sell
23-year-old full-back Carl Jenkinson, who has impressed during a

“I met Carl Jenkinson this week to speak
about his future,” Wenger said. “We will sit down together again at the
end of the season. My target is to keep him here at the club. He had a
great season and has moved forward.
“Overall, he has gained a lot of
confidence at West Ham and the decision I have to make is: ‘Do I bring
him back now or does he need one more year to play somewhere in the
Premier League?’ That is what I have to decide at the end of the season.
“I agree that he needs experience. He is
a very promising right-back with good quality and he has had a year
where he has moved forward.”
Inter open door for Balotelli return

Vice-President Javier Zanetti has opened the door to Mario Balotelli
returning to the club after admitting “anything can happen” in football.
According to Goal, the forward
began his career with Inter and won Serie A three times, the Coppa
Italia and Supercoppa Italiana during his time with the Nerazzurri.
However, he left for Manchester City in
2010 after a sour end to his time at the club, which saw him throw his
shirt to the ground after the Champions League semi-final against
Barcelona in 2010.
But, Zanetti says Balotelli could yet
pen another chapter with Inter if coach Roberto Mancini – who coaxed
flashes of brilliance out of the forward in his first spell and at City –
wants to sign him.
“In football anything can happen,” he told the Corriere Dello Sport.
“If Mancini asks us then certainly it could happen. I’m convinced that
if he had stayed at Inter he would have matured further.”

All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Kogi State chapter, on Saturday described the N100,000 loan to farmers by the state government as grossly inadequate.
AFAN Secretary in the state, Mr. Ademu Halidu, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lokoja that the amount was too small for any farmer to work with.
Halidu said, “It is most unfortunate that at this present time, farmers would be given a token sum of N100,000 each as loan. The amount is too small for any farmer to work with.
“What about the stress and the rigour the farmers passed through before they were able to access the loan.
“Apart from the small amount, the process undertaken by farmers before getting the loan in terms of bank registration and documentation is too cumbersome for any rural farmer.
“Farmers are also demanded by the bank to open an account and pay a compulsory deposit of N10,000 before accessing the fund.
“AFAN are saying that the amount is too small in this era of mechanised farming with innovations of farm inputs, which determine the farm output products.”
The secretary said the in-house crisis in the state AFAN and Cooperatives Federation of Farmers was responsible for the association’s failure to press home its demands with the state government.
He promised that the crisis would be resolved within the next two weeks and that AFAN would re-unite to present their case before the state government.
Meanwhile, Halidu had criticised the decision of the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Zacchaeus Atte, to disburse the loan directly to individual farmer without channeling it through AFAN.
NAN reports that Kogi State Government, through the Bank of Agriculture, has commenced the disbursement of N750m loan to farmers in the state.
